Review | Dior Creme de Rose

At £20 this lip balm is definitely over-priced, but then what do you expect from Dior?

My lips have been super dry lately from the horrible weather so I thought I'd splash out. Firstly the packaging, this actually doesn't appeal to me that much. I have the Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm which is £10 and I think the glass pot which that comes in looks so much more luxurious than this does.

But onto the product - this is not as thick as the Nuxe one which makes it more daytime appropriate. I like to apply this one throughout the day and just use the Nuxe one in the evening. Although it looks quite pink in the pot there isn't much colour pay off which I don't mind as I wasn't expecting there to be as I bought it for the moisturising aspect. My lips have got much better since starting to use this so for me, it's been worth it. However I think that the Nuxe Reve de Miel is half the price and works just as well so I'm not sure I would re-purchase this.

Would you buy this or is £20 just too expensive for a lip balm?

ps; the Nuxe lip balm is currently on offer for £7.60 on FeelUnique!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all had a great day wherever you were :)

This post is just to share a few snapshots of my day. I split my time between seeing my mum and brothers and then I went to see my dad. This was the first time in ages that I'd seen my dad on Christmas Day as he lives down south so it's ages to travel but he was staying with family this year which was really good. I ate far too much food and definitely drank too much wine, the tequila even came out at one point!!

I got a few home bits for Christmas which you can see in the bottom picture, I got the rug, beanbag and red cushion. I think my flat is finally starting to feel much more homely. I also picked up a new duvet cover in the Urban Outfitters sale so hopefully it will all start to come together.

I went a bit wild in the sales particularly ASOS and Urban Outfitters, surprisingly I didn't buy any beauty bits, it was mainly clothes and homeware!

Did you brave the Boxing Day sales or do it from the comfort of the sofa like me?

Sunday Post | Where have I been?

It's been a while guys...

I've not really got any good excuse as to why I've neglected my blog so much. I don't really think I need an excuse either, sometimes life takes over. I go to work when it's dark and quite often arrive home when it's dark. So photo taking opportunities are few and far between. I know I should take photos on my days off but this time of year means my weekends are really busy catching up with friends and family. I hope in the New Year I can get myself more organised, but for now I'm afraid posts will probably be sparse.

I'm finally feeling really festive, I finished wrapping all my presents and they are all under my little Christmas tree. I can't believe it's Christmas Day so soon, it's really crept up on me this year. I'm working on Christmas Eve which is a bit rubbish but hopefully I should finish at 4, then I'll be driving home to my mum's house :)

Are you feeling festive yet?

ps, even though I haven't been blogging very much I have become obsessed with Tumblr, follow me here http://aztecmess.tumblr.com

Christmas Themed Favourites

I completely missed the time frame for a November favourites post to be acceptable so I've re-named it 'Christmas Themed Favourites' .... that's acceptable, right?

Usually I stick with burgundy shades for my nails in A/W but this year I've been favouring glitters. My favourites are from Topshop and Bourjois. This photo does not show the full beauty of either of these polishes. I got so many compliments when wearing the Topshop colour, depending on the light it is either blue or purple glitter with an almost metallic sheen. The Bourjois option is a darker option with gold glitter. Both of these are perfect for the Christmas party season.

Keeping with the glitter theme is this gold glittery eyeliner from Collection. I love wearing this patted on top of eyeshadows rather than as an actual eyeliner, it adds just enough sparkle to an evening smokey eye. Another eye product I've been loving is the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate. I didn't get on too well with the colour On and On Bronze but I've found if I use a good primer under both then they don't crease. I love the colour of Metallic Pomegranate and it is so quick to apply all over the lid to make it look like you've really made an effort!

Last product I've been loving is the Bobbi Brown blusher in Apricot - I usually stick to more peachy hues but I've really been enjoying using this. It is very pigmented so less is definitely more!

What have you been loving lately? Are you as obsessed with glitter as me??

ps, how cute is my mini Christmas tree :')

Another Weekend in London

Dress & Jacket - Topshop
Belt - H&M
Tom's Tux - ASOS

This weekend I headed down to London again for my boyfriends work Christmas party. It was a black-tie event which meant I was able to wear a full length dress which made me very excited. The party was in Central London and the location was beautiful. There was an amazing 3 course meal, I wish I'd taken photos but I devoured it too quickly! Free drinks all night led to an almighty hangover, but I had the best night!

Every time I go to London I love it even more, one day I'll live there - fingers crossed.
Hope you all had a great weekend!

Yankee Candle Mandarin Cranberry

I've been really tempted to buy Yankee Candles before but had never known which scent to go for. I decided to go in to look at the Christmas scents and I was amazed at the choice! My Mum has one that is White Christmas but I couldn't find that in the store and I can't see it on the website either which is sad cause it's a gorgeous scent. Instead I went for Mandarin Cranberry which is absolutely gorgeous. I've been burning it this afternoon/evening and my living smells amazing. It's a fruity smell without being overly sweet, I definitely prefer this to the more traditional warmer, spicy Christmas scents.

What other scents do you recommend?

Winter Wardrobe Additions

Checked Shirt - Topshop £30
Jamie Jeans - Topshop £40
Striped Jumper - H&M £9.99
Grey Jumper - H&M £9.99

I know it's almost Christmas so I shouldn't be shopping, but my wardrobe was seriously lacking in any A/W appropriate clothes so I did a little bit of shopping in H&M and Topshop. I bought my favourite Topshop jeans in a different colour. I absolutely love the Jamie jeans, they are high-waisted but not as crazy high-waisted as the Joni jeans. I also got to buy they jeans in a size lower than my others ones which made me very happy!! Obviously the gym is balancing out my Starbucks addiction! I also bought a checked shirt, I've been looking for one for ages but hadn't found one I really liked. I actually bought this in a size 16 as I wanted it to be really over-sized. It's long enough to wear with leggings which is perfect, I think it will be my go to lazy day outfit!

I've recently discovered how amazing H&M is, I don't know why I've been ignoring this shop for so long. The basic pieces in there are so affordable, both these jumpers were only £9.99 and they are really good quality. I'll definitely be going back to look for work clothes but not anytime soon because spending is officially stopped until after Christmas with the exception of Christmas presents obviously!

Although I do need some new boots...

Sunday Post #20 | Starbucks & Christmas

The weather has been getting freezing cold these past few weeks. So when I'm not at work I've been snuggled on the sofa with a cup of tea and treating myself to quite a few Starbucks! I finally put my heating on after resisting since I've moved in, I was relying on hot water bottles and dressing gowns but I had to cave and turn it on this week. So cold!!

I went home to my parents house with my boyfriend today and my family were putting up the Christmas tree. I know some people think it's too early but we always have ours up ready for the 1st. We all put on our Santa hats and I sang Christmas songs very loudly :D It really got me in the mood for Christmas and I've put my little Christmas tree up in my flat too :).

Is anyone else getting in the Christmas spirit yet?!

ps; how cute are my little brothers!!

NOTD | Essie Shearling Darling

I was never sure whether Essie nail polishes were worth the hype or price. But recently I've been loving them! My job is quite hands on which means nail polishes chip very quickly. I've found that Essie polishes last the longest without chipping, so they are a winner!

Shearling Darling is an amazing dark almost black purple. It is one of those typical A/W shades that I love wearing this time of year. I also love how this looks on shorter nails and because of my job I can't really have long nails.

Do you think Essie polishes are worth the price?

Haul | Autumn Beauty Additions

Essie Winter 2013 Collection - Available in Superdrug

Another bit of shopping..shhhh. I was doing Christmas shopping and couldn't help but treat myself to a few bits! I don't think I've ever bought an Essie nail polish by itself, they do such amazing collections that I always end up buying them. I love all the colours in this set, especially Parka Perfect. Even though the Colour Tattoos haven't worked that well for me in the past I couldn't resist this colour, perfect for Autumn/Winter, I'll let you know how I get on! I heard Anna from Vivianna Does Make-Up talk about this Rimmel Scandaleyes eye pencil and I thought it would work really well for work. It gives definition without being as harsh as a black liquid or pencil liner. Lastly is a repurchase, MAC Hue. This was my first ever MAC lipstick and I absolutely love it, it's the perfect every day colour.

Hope you liked this post! I can't believe how close it is to christmas, I think my next post will be a christmas wish list :)

A London Day Out

I've just got back from the best couple of days in London. It has made me all the more determined to move there one day. I was visiting my boyfriend and we decided to be super touristy. We forgot it was Remberance Sunday (awful, I know) but as soon as we got into Central London there were parades and gatherings of people everywhere. It was really lovely, almost made me get emotional!

We got the bus from Brixton to Sloane Square and then I wandered round Chelsea and Kensington pretending I was in Made in Chelsea. We decided to go see Buckingham Palace without thinking about how busy it would be. We saw posh cars driving into Buckingham Palace and I got really excited thinking there might have been royalty in them, but we couldn't see through the crowds. We then walked to Leicester Square to get away from the crowds and had some lunch, then we walked to Covent Garden. We then decided we had done enough walking and got the tube back to Brixton in time to go to a pub and watch the football. United won which only made my day more perfect.

Hope you had a great weekend :)

FOTD | Work Make-Up & An Update

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Bronzer (limited ed)

Even though my alarm goes off at 5am for work I still make time for putting on make-up. Some people are really confident going out bare-faced but I'm just not. If I didn't care, I could probably get up at 5.30, but what's half an hour anyway? Plus I love applying make-up! These products are the ones I've been using every day. Sorry for the iPhone picture, I wasn't willing to set up my big camera at 5.30am!!

Sorry for not posting very regularly recently, I am meant to work from 6am-2pm but I often finish later so I'm exhausted when I get home! Then I sit around watching tv and before I know it it's too dark to take photos. But I'm going to really try and make an effort to get back on track because I really love blogging and I don't want it to get ignored. Thanks for sticking with me and hopefully content will be much more regular from now on!

What's in my Make-up Bag | The Friend Edition #2

I really love having a peek into my friend's make-up bags, I always end up finding new products I'd like to try and I find it interesting seeing what works for other people. I've already done a post like this which you can read here.

These products are from my old housemate from uni, Kat. Kat has really sensitive skin so has to be quite careful what base products she uses. She's previously used Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions but has now moved onto Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation. Neither of these foundations have had any negative effects on her skin and her skin was looking amazing wearing the Bobbi Brown foundation! The next product Kat loves is the Bourjois Rose D'or blusher, possibly quite surprising seeing as it is very scented. It's a really gorgeous pink colour and has that kind of english rose look. I really like the Bourjois round pots, but you have to bare in mind that they are baked really hard so the pigmentation isn't that great.

Last but not least is the Sleek I Divine Au Natural palette which I actually gave to her because I wasn't using. Now usually I would show the inside of the palette, but about 4 of the colours were empty and she had hit pan on lots of the others so it wasn't quite in a state to photograph! I almost regret giving her this palette now because I think I would have used it lots, but I have so many eyeshadows that I really didn't need this one as well. Kat used most of the shades in this palette but she specifically mentioned that she thought it was great that there was a matte black which she uses instead of eyeliner for a softer look.

Hope you liked this peek into my friend's make-up bag. I definitely want to try the Bobbi Brown foundation after hearing her rave about it!

October Favourites

All my favourites this month are quite affordable, I think there are so many good products in Boots and Superdrug that it isn't really necessary to spend a fortune on make-up. Although I do love a good splurge sometimes! I've tried to link blogposts that these products have been mentioned in so I can keep this post a bit shorter, so if you want to read more about the products then click on the link to the relevant blogpost.

L'Oreal Volume Million Excess Mascara, Dove Leave in Conditioner and Maybelline gel eyeliner are all old favourites that I've gone back to. I've repurchased the mascara and conditioner multiple times each and I think I'll be buying the gel eyeliner again soon. The mascara gives amazing volume without making your lashes go clumpy which is basically what I look for in a mascara. I have almost finished up the conditioner so I need to go and buy it again, at £2.39 it is a real bargain. Since switching from liquid to gel eyeliner I've been wearing eyeliner so much more. Liquid eyeliner never used to last all day on me, I'd always end up smudging it whereas this gel eyeliner lasts all day without moving.

Some newer obsessions are the Bourjois nail varnish and The Body Shop fragrance, both which I have posted about in the last few days. Final favourites are the Lush Bubblegum lip scrub and the Maybelline Brow Drama. The lip scrub has been a necessity as I've been favouring more dramatic lip colours which require a really good base so they don't gather on the dry bits of your lips. I'm thinking of doing a post on my current favourite lip colours so let me know if you want to see that! And finally the Maybelline Brow Drama mascara has become a daily necessity, it stops my brows moving and helps to make them look tidier and more natural.

Link me to any of your October favourites posts as they are one of my favourite kind of posts to read!

Brand Focus | The Body Shop

I got the idea to do 'Brand Focus' posts from Estée from Essie Button. I often find myself wanting to talk about lots of products from the same brand so I thought this was a really good idea. So credit to Estée!

Other than for the body butters, I've never really paid that much attention to The Body Shop. I think it's because I've never had a store close to me. But now I live in a city centre there is a store really close to me! I am so impressed with everything I've tried.

Even though I tend to favour the body butters, The Body Shop have a range of body moisturisers. This one is a body lotion, it's a lot lighter than the body butters which is really nice as it means it sinks in a lot easier. I like using lighter moisturisers on a daily basis and saving the body butters for weekends when I'm not in a big rush! The White Musk Smoky Rose fragrance is not one I would usually go for as it is quite a deep, musky scent (as the name would suggest!) but I've really been liking it and I think it's a good one for A/W.

To contrast with the deep musky scents I've been liking, I've also been loving the Vanilla scent too. This is a much sweeter scent and probably not very A/W appropriate, but I still love it! Finally is the Almond Hand and Nail Cream, firstly I love the packaging! I also love how quickly it sinks in, I really hate it when hand creams leave you feeling all greasy. And of course the almond scent is absolutely amazing.

I'm so glad I've properly started looking in The Body Shop, their products have all been amazing. I'm sure I will find lots more products to add to my wish list, but if you have any specific recommendations then please leave them in the comments!

NOTD | Bourjois 1 Seconde in Dangerous Wish

I went into town to buy an extension cable, but obviously I couldn't walk past a Boots and a Superdrug without going in! I have heard a lot about these Bourjois nail polishes and I thought this one looked very A/W appropriate. It's opaque in 2 coats as usual. I absolutely love the contrast of the gold glitter in the black polish. Definitely a new favourite of mine.

For some reason my photos aren't coming out as good as usual. I've just got a new MacBook Pro and I'm using iPhoto. When I look at the photo on iPhoto it looks really good but then uploaded onto blogger it doesn't look as good :/. If anyone knows why pleaseeee tell me in the comments! I've already turned off auto-enhance in google+ so I am very confused!

Sunday Post #19 | Halloween

Halloween is coming up very soon so I thought I would dedicate today's lifestyle post to some party ideas. I'm not sure if I'll be celebrating Halloween as I think I'll be working but if I was, I would definitely have some decorations and some ghoulish themed food and drink.

Firstly we need decorations, Asda has so much Halloween stuff it's all so affordable! All these products are less than £5 - bargain!

Next is drinks. I've done a few cocktail related posts on my blog already which you can read here & here. But for this post I thought some Halloween-related cocktails would be perfect. I found this post which has the Top 10 Frighteningly Easy Halloween Cocktails. I also found these amazing shot glasses which you can find here.

And lastly here are two ideas for food (although food should probably come before cocktails!). I love the BBC Good Food website when I'm stuck for ideas, so it was the first place I went when planning this post.

First up is Eyeball Pasta, I thought this was a great idea as usually Halloween themed food is cake and sweet based.

And obviously there needed to be a cake option, I thought these Spider cakes looked really good and not too hard to make!

What have you got planned for Halloween?

Blog Love #3

Another 3 of my favourite blogs to share with you today, hope you find some new reads!

First up is the lovely Kayleigh from Couture Girl. I'm sure most of you already read her blog, but I want to mention all of my favourites no matter how many followers they have. Not only is Kayleigh an amazing blogger with great pictures and really interesting content, but she is also really really lovely. She always responds to every tweet and loves chatting with her readers. One my favourite posts from Kayleigh is her Make-Up Storage Post

Next up is the lovely Adrienne from Late Night Nonsense. Adrienne also runs a YouTube channel which I love, you can watch that here. Adrienne's blog is relatively new but she's already doing so well. Her photos are really amazing.

I really loved the post about switching up your skincare routine for Autumn, here.

Last up for today's post is the lovely Sophia. I first started chatting to Sophia a long time ago now. Unfortunately we've still not had the chance to meet but hopefully that will happen soon! If you ever have an issue or problem Sophia is so lovely to chat to. Like the other two girls, Sophia always responds to tweets and is always up for a good natter. Her blog is amazing, there is such a variety of posts and Sophia manages to post at least once a day which I am in awe of as I know how long it takes to take photos, write a post and then edit it all!

My current favourite posts on Sophia's blog is the My Little Skincare Project - such a great idea!

I hope you'll all go and check out these lovely bloggers and leave me any recommendations of your own in the comments.

Current Make-Up Picks

theBalm Nude'tude
Rimmel Scandaleyes Nude eyeliner
17 Metallic Eyes cream shadow
Maybelline brow pencil
Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara

Benefit Porefessional
Revlon Nearly Naked foundation
Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer
MAC Matte Bronze
Benefit Watts Up

A quick post today showing you my current make-up picks. I have been wearing these products almost daily. Benefit's Porefessional is an essential to help my make-up last a full 8 hours at work. I find that using the 17 cream eyeshadow as a base makes my eye make-up last so much longer and intensifies the colour of the shadows you put on top. Because I've been having much earlier mornings I've been relying on highlighter to keep my skin looking fresh, Benefit Watts Up is my favourite option at the moment. It gives a subtle sheen which can be built up for a more dramatic look. Rimmel Scandaleyes nude eyeliner is also amazing for helping you to look awake. It cancels out any redness in the waterline which makes your eyes look much more wide and awake.

What make-up products have you been using recently? I've recently picked up the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation, so that's also become a new favourite!

Sunday Post #18 | Christmas come early?

My boyfriend has come to visit me this weekend which has been amazing as I haven't seen him for 3 weeks!! We've been relaxing, watching films, drinking wine and eating a lot of food! Yesterday we went for a wander around town and ended up spending almost 2 hours in John Lewis! We were looking round all the homeware stuff and decided what we would have when we finally get to live with each other again, which probably won't be for a few years realistically :( And then we came across the Christmas section! Yep, it's only October and apparently Christmas is already here??

This Essie polish is my absolute favourite at the moment, I wrote about it in this post hereI've just been repainting this colour since I bought it!

Hope you've had a great weekend!

Wishlist | Scarves

The weather has finally turned. I thought the good weather seemed to have stuck around for too long. Well now it has definitely gone! This means my autumn wardrobe needs a bit of an update and that means scarves. I love how scarves are both practical (keeping you warm) but also they can really make an outfit. Hats are okay, but to be honest they tend to spend most of their time in my bag and no one likes hat hair!

There are so many different types of scarves you can buy; silk, woolly, printed, faux fur. Accessorize have made this video showing just how versatile scarves can be!

After watching the video I had a quick peruse on their website and then also got distracted on Topshop and ASOS, so I've created a wishlist of some scarves I think need to be added to my wardrobe. I am going to be walking to work most days so I definitely need some extra layers to keep me warm. They are all pretty affordable options, all high-street stores. I don't really see the point in investing in a more expensive option when there is such an amazing selection available on the high-street.

Left | Topshop
Bottom | ASOS

How cute is the fox scarf?! Maybe not quite as practical as the ASOS option but definitely wins for the cute factor. I've seen so many tartan scarves around so that's why I chose the Topshop one, I think it's really on trend but is a little different as it isn't the typical red and black tartan.

I think I'm definitely going to be buying some more scarves. Winter, I'll be ready for you!

Sunday Post #17 | Hangover & The OC

Today has been a very lazy day. I've been nursing a hangover and packing for my week away. I'm not going anyway exciting, I'm going on a course with work in Coventry. I have the heaviest suitcase in the world cause I'm so bad at packing, I take far too much stuff.

In between packing I've been catching up on YouTube videos and watching the OC. I've started watching the OC from the beginning, I'm currently on the first series and Oliver has just made an appearance. I've also been continuing my addiction to Candy Crush, I am so obsessed!!

Not much else to not other than my gorgeous phone case from Iconemesis*, I absolutely love the design. I like how it is mainly white as I have a white iPhone and purple is my favourite colours, so it's perfect!

Hopefully I feel more human again tomorrow, because I am currently a zombie. Plans for the rest of the evening are to cosy up with a nice hot chocolate and watch X-Factor with my mum. Perfect.

Autumn Make-Up Edit

Autumn is here so I've picked out my Autumn make-up essentials. There are actually quite a few new bits in here. But firstly one old favourite which is the Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in 107 which I've just repurchased as I lost my old one on a night out. It's the perfect dark berry shade and the formula is amazing, matte enough so it doesn't slip all over your face but not drying at all. Another Rimmel product is the Match Perfection foundation, I'd heard so many great things about this on other blogs so I gave in and bought it. I think I might prefer it the the Wake Me Up foundation! It gives a good coverage and isn't overly dewy. It lasts really well on my skin and the colour Ivory is a perfect colour match for my pale autumn/winter skin!

I've recently started to love Bobbi Brown, I reviewed the Concealer kit before and now I have two new additions. The blush is in the colour Apricot and is much darker than my usually peach shades, but I think it's a really nice change. I also caved in and bought the correcter in Light Bisque. The final pick for my Autumn make-up edit is MUA Heaven & Earth palette. I will use every colour in this palette and it's such a bargain at £4!

So this Autumn it seems I'm going for perfected skin, dark lips and bronze eyes. What products will you be favouring this Autumn?
