January Fitness Update

January is over so it's time for my first fitness update. I started out the first 3 weeks with so much dedication and motivation. I did Kayla Itsines' workouts three times a week and then I was also running twice a week. Unfortunately my motivation seemed to slip a little bit and I only managed 3 workouts in the last week, but that is still so much better than I used to be.

Before I started this work out kick I was expecting to immediately lose loads of weight. I can get a bit obsessed with the scales so when they weren't really shifting I was really disappointed. But after talking to lots of friends who are into exercise and much more knowledgeable than me, I realised that that isn't that important.

Even after only one month I have noticed a real change in the muscle definition in my legs. Unfortunately I am still waiting for those abs...

I thought I would show you some photos of what I have been eating for dinner. I am lucky that I get breakfast and lunch at work. So typically for breakfast I will have branflakes or natural yoghurt with banana and honey. For lunch I will eat whatever is on the menu which can be anything from casseroles to burgers to pork chops. So the only meal I plan is dinner. I have been loving prawns lately so they are featured a lot mainly stir fried with veggies.

Top: Prawn and Chorizo stir fry, Sweet Potato and Tuna Salad
Bottom: Pork Chops with stir fried veggies, Chicken and Prawn stir fry

I hope that gave you some healthy food inspiration! I am determined to keep going and I can't recommend Kayla Itsines workout plan enough, it definitely helps keep me motivated knowing that the work out is already planned for me.

How's everyone elses New Years Resolutions going?

January Favourites

It's the end of the month so time to share my monthly favourites! I have decided to try making these a monthly occurrence, as last year they were a bit hit and miss (I think my last favourite post was back in July!). I think this was because I was confining myself to beauty products, so this time around there will be a bit of whatever I fancy! Some months that might be all beauty but some months there will be no beauty products at all.

So onto this months faves. First up is jewellery. I go through phases with jewellery, sometimes I can barely be bothered to put on my watch and other times I am piling on all the rings and bracelets I own. And this month it's the latter. A few favourites are a turquoise ring I bought from Etsy that came all the way from Estonia and a silver ring with a red stone from Urban Outfitters
Nail Polish | Essie Mint Candy Apple
Onto a few beauty favourites. First up is technically not a beauty product but I have finally got myself some storage for my make-up which was from WH Smiths of all places! I share my room with my boyfriend and it is tiiiiiny so no Pinterest-worthy white dressing table for me I'm afraid. But I think this box is really cute and adds a nice bit of colour to our room!

Mug from Cath Kidston & Essie Naughty Nautical Nail Polish

Now onto to some actual beauty faves. I dabble in fake tan now and then but to ease me back in I've been using the Cocoa Butter fake tan. I've used it in the past and it's almost foolproof, I say almost as I definitely have a nice orange patch between two fingers today haha! But it's super cheap and gives a really nice colour after one application, so once I've got this perfected I might splash out on my old favourite Xen Tan.

Up next is the L'Oreal Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner. I used to think the Soap & Glory one was the best but this one blows it out of the water!! The tip is really thin so you can get a really precise line and it lasts all day, perfect!

Finally are two face products. Bobbi Brown's Sheer Finish Pressed Powder which I have just hit pan on wahhhh. This helps keeps my skin shine free all day. I tend to just apply it down the centre of my face. It also works really well when you top up during the day and never looks cakey. Then there is the Bobbi Brown blusher in Apricot which gives a lovely natural looking flush to the cheeks. Even though it looks quite bright in the packaging, if used with a light hand it's really subtle.

What have been your January favourites? Link up any posts you've done in the comments :)

Best Dressed | Screen Actors Guild Awards 2015

Julia Roberts in Givenchy
Rashida Jones in Emanuel Ungaro
Keira Knightley in Erdem

After enjoying writing my Golden Globes Best Dressed post, I thought I would round up a few of my faves from the SAG awards!

I love how Julia Roberts shunned the predictable dress and went for a gorgeous Givenchy suit, still as glam but just a little different. I've loved suits ever since that Angelina Jolie suit.

Rashida Jones is my newest girl crush and I adore this dress she wore, the blue edging is such an amazing detail. Emanuel Ungaro isn't a designer I had heard of but after a quick google search he may be a new fave!

Finally Keira Knightley, she is seriously rocking the pregnant style. She has told E! News that she won't be wearing any figure hugging outfits (a la Blake Lively) which is the obvious and often most flattering way to go so I think she's giving herself a hard job! But so far she is winning.

Hope you're enjoying a bit more variety on Aztec Mess!

Have a great week :)

Spring Nail Polishes

Essie L-R Peach Daquiri, Lapiz of Luxury, Naughty Nautical and Russian Roulette

During December I was rocking some festive nails and a lot of glitter (see here and here) but I thought it was time to switch it up and inject some spring colours into the mix.

As always, the polishes are all Essie. They offer so many colours and the formula is amazing so I don't really look anywhere else anymore. I know they are more expensive but I don't mind paying when the polishes don't chip for at least 4 days!

I have rekindled my love for painting my nails and buying nail polishes recently. I seem to buy a new one each week at the moment!! I'm about to paint my nails with Naughty Nautical now.

Let me know your fave polishes :)

Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
It's between two things. Firstly, graduating university - my third year was when my anxiety reared its ugly head and so I'm quite proud that I managed to still come out of uni with a grade I was happy with. Secondly would be quitting my job and moving to London. I managed to get a good graduate job as soon as I finished uni but I soon realised that it wasn't for me and I wasn't enjoying it. It was really well paid so I stayed for a year but I was just really unhappy so knew I had to leave. I took the plunge and found a job in an industry I wanted to work in and moved to London. I was absolutely petrified and I am proud that I had the guts to do it and 3 months in, I am so happy. Best decision ever.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I had the obvious child dream of wanting to be a vet, but soon realised I didn't like blood and would therefore not cope very well! After that I wanted to go into fashion but wasn't really sure what specifically. Now I am very happy working in digital marketing and the brands I work with are fashion brands, score!

What are some things that scare you?
Spiders, the dark, sharks.

What was your life like growing up and in high school?
I went to a really small school and I absolutely loved it. I had an amazing group of friends and i'm still in touch with loads of them now which is so lovely.

Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I think I am an extrovert, I love going out and socialising. I don't really like my own company, I'm much happier being with people. This is not good for my bank balance though!!

That's all the questions done so I hope you liked finding out a bit more about me :)
Hope you've had a lovely weekend so far and enjoy your Sunday!

Alexa Chung for AG

I am a huge fan of Alexa Chung. I absolutely love her style, so when it was announced she was collaborating with denim geniuses AG, I was very excited! The collection has launched today and so I've gathered a few links of where you can buy it! Also Alexa Chung herself is going to be at the London Selfridges store tonight (15/1) from 6pm-8pm, so if you're a Londoner I'd head down! You also get a complimentary gift with purchase!

I think my favourite pieces are the jumper and the dress Alexa wears in one of the campaign images.

The collection seems to be selling out pretty fast so get buying!

Which pieces are your favourite?

Best Dressed | Golden Globes 2015

photos from Daily Mail and Independent
Sienna Miller in Miu Miu
Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab
Heidi Klum in Versace

I never watch these big award shows, but I do always scour the internet for the best dressed celebs! I decided to pick my three favourite dresses from the 2015 Golden Globe awards. Apparently I'm liking a plunging neckline?

Who were your best dressed this year?

Exploring London | Primrose Hill & Notting Hill

One of my New Years Resolutions was to explore London more. So I dragged Tom away from the Xbox and insisted we visit a few places we haven't been to before.

First we went to Primrose Hill and stood at the top admiring the gorgeous view. We were pretty lucky with the weather, it was such a clear day so the view was incredible. We then hopped on a bus to Notting Hill, there's no market on a Sunday so it wasn't crazy busy which I liked. We had a stroll down Portobello Road and found a nice little pub to have a Sunday roast. The tables were all decorated with candles in spirit bottles which I thought was nice but I know lots of people hate that! The meal would have been even more perfect washed down with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio but we are both doing dry January so that didn't happen!

January is always a weird month, Christmas and New Year are over and you're trying to get back into the swing of things. The pockets are emptier than usual due to over spending at Christmas and we're all constantly restricting our diets and alcohol consumption to try to make up for over doing it in December. I've decided to try to take advantage of not drinking and having no hangovers by exploring so hopefully next weekend I will have another new part of London to tell you about :)

Hope you have all had a great week!

Hair Inspiration | Long vs Short

All photos from my Hair and Beauty Pinterest board!

I've been debating for a while to cut my hair short like in the top photos but then I find photos of people with gorgeous long wavy hair and now I don't know what to do?! Do I keep growing my hair or go along with the latest trend of a long bob? My hair at the moment is annoyingly inbetween lengths, so it definitely needs something doing to it! I also want to dye it dark brown again but my hair fades so quickly, it seems my hair is determined to be gingery brown no matter what dye I use!

Which do you prefer?

2014 | Highs & Lows

I've done my 2014 blog summary post, so now it's time for a catch up on my life in 2014!

As I did last year I'm going to include some of my favourite moments from the year. Most of these photos are taken from my Instagram, Aztec Mess.

Ireland with Tom
This year has been made perfect by my friends and family.

In my post last year I spoke about my anxiety. I am so happy to be able to tell you how much it has improved. I still have the occasional panic attack but it is absolutely nothing like it was before. It doesn't control my life and what I do anymore and so I feel like I finally have it under control. I started a new job in London in October and I feel like it's one of the best decisions I have ever made. I wasn't happy in my old job anymore and I knew I wanted to work in digital marketing, so I took the plunge and now 3 months later I am so happy. I have made amazing friends and am loving the London lifestyle! I even don't mind the northern line in rush hour!

Although there are a lot of positives, this year hasn't been the easiest. I found out that one of the best people in my life has cancer and I have to say I have not dealt with it well. My Grandad is so unbelievably special to me. I lived with him when I was younger and we have an amazing bond. He taught me how to spell, he used to tuck me up into bed and tell me a story to help me fall asleep but then also let me sneak into bed with him and my nana when I couldn't sleep or had a nightmare. It has been so hard to see him have to go through this, but I'm just praying and praying that everything he's going through now will all work and we can just look back on this time as a close call.

Sorry for a bit of an emotional outpouring there, but there is always highs and lows in every year.

I hope you all had a great 2014 and here's to an even better 2015!

Aztec Mess in 2014

Happy New Year!

As I did last year (or two years ago?!), I thought it would be nice to look back on Aztec Mess in 2014. I have blogged the least last year since I started my blog (feels weird writing last year!) I think this is because I had a pretty stressful job for most of the year and I just lost motivation! Towards the end of the year I got a new job and I *think* my motivation is coming back! Being in an environment where having a blog isn't considered weird and having lots more friends with blogs has made me determined to make mine better!

For my 2013 post I chose my favourite posts, but this year I went to Google Analytics and looked at my most read posts by you guys! I've picked three of them to share with you. Click the links below the pictures if you haven't already read the posts!

Hope everyone had a great New Year!
