Review | Benefit Roller Lash

I think every blogger I know has tried this mascara seeing as it came free with last months Elle! But just in case you haven't, I thought I would give you my opinion. I've tried the Benefit They're Real mascara and that is still one of my favourite mascaras. The only reason I haven't repurchased it is because of the price. I think drugstore mascaras are really good, so I tend to go to L'Oreal or Maxfactor. But I read Elle magazine anyway so obviously I was going to buy it with a good freebie!

I had high hopes because I loved the They're Real so much, but for me this doesn't live up to my expectations. I am lucky that I don't need to use waterproof mascara as my eyelashes are pretty naturally curly so I can't comment on whether it holds a curl. It did give me length but it didn't give me the volume I was looking for so after I took the snap above I layered on a Maxfactor mascara. I think that it is a good mascara, but for the price I would expect to be satisfied with the results on it's own and not have to layer. But do bare in mind that I like quite voluminous lashes, so this might not be an issue for you if you're not as bothered! On the postive side, it lasted really well with no smudging and I wore it in a nightclub. The brush is also really easy to use and not super fiddly to do your bottom lashes either.

I am planning on bringing back more beauty related content as it's something I haven't been doing as much recently and I miss it! So I think I will be doing an updated make-up favourites in the next week or so.

Have you tried the Benefit Roller Lash? What did you think?

Minimal Nail Art Inspiration

minimal nail art
I recently posted about loving netural nails. Next I think I want to try some of these really minimalist nail designs. I had a phase of trying out nail art and was drawing aztec prints and crosses all over my nails back at uni (suuuper old blog post linked there, cringe!), but now I think that looks a little over the top.

I'm not sure my nails are in good enough condition to go completely bare, so I may have to layer over a sheer nail polish.

What do you think of this style?

Sunday Summary

Deliciously Ella Recipe Book

I hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's weekend! My boyfriend was in Scarborough celebrating his Grandma's 80th birthday so we didn't actually do anything. My mum knew I didn't have any plans so offered to pay for my train tickets to go home. So it ended up being a super chilled weekend visiting family and surprising my grandparents :)

Fitness is still going well, managed to go for 3 runs this week. Although on my run today I felt like I was going to be sick halfway through boo :(. I think this was because I ate about an hour and a half before, and it turns out that isn't enough time to digest a sandwich!! My aim for next week is still just 3 workouts because I'm away from Wednesday evening and I always find it harder to work out when I'm not at home in my normal routine.

On Friday my amazon order arrived with FleurDeForce's new book and Deliciously Ella's book. I am so excited to read through them properly. I've flicked through both and they are both such lovely books with gorgeous photography and illustrations. I love that both these girls are bloggers as well, so awesome to see bloggers doing so well!

Hows everyone's weekends been?

Reading | Books, Blogs & Magazines

Reading always used to be something I loved when I was younger, but as I got older the passion just seemed to disappear. I've been making an effort to read more in the last few months and it is a New Years Resolution of mine. So I thought I would put together a blog post with my favourite reads, whether they be books, blogs or glossy magazines.

Obviously as a blogger I love reading other blogs, I am really into fashion blogs at the moment, particularly Ropes of Holland and The Lovecats Inc (both linked below their photos). These girls have amazing style but it still seems achievable. I don't want to read blogs where everything they own is £££. That's what the glossy mags are for!

Onto magazines, my favourites are monthly magazines. I don't really see the point in weekly magazines, I find out all the goss in the side bar of shame (Daily Mail, I know. It's awful. I'm sorry.) and I think they all regurgitate the same stories anyway. Whereas within monthly magazines there are really interesting articles, well interesting to me anyway. My faves are Elle, Vogue (obvs), and Instyle.

With books, I have split them into two categories. 'Coffee table' books and regular books. I love coffee table books and I'm waiting for the day I can own a gorgeous glass coffee table and have books, flowers and candles all over it! I really love the photography in Stylelikeu and Style Diaries (linked below the photo) and I could flick through them all day with a nice cup of tea.

Finally onto what I call 'regular' books! I am currently reading All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews. It's about two sisters and one of them wants to commit suicide. It explores their relationship between the sisters and really makes you think about how suicide effects each person involved.
Some other favourites include;
I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
1984 by George Orwell
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami

I am so glad I've made the effort to start reading properly again. Do you manage to find the time?
Please leave any book recommendations in the comments :)

Essie Neutral Nails

Essie White Nail Polish

Essie Grey Nail Polish

Essie Chinchilly

I am all about bright colours on my nails as you will know from my recent Spring Nail Polishes post. But the past week has seen me drawn to the neutral shades. I bought my first white nail polish, I'd been putting it off because I thought they would be streaky. Of course Essie came through and gave me a gorgeous white polish, opaque in two coats. I thought it would look a bit 'tip-ex' nails but I really like it.
If I don't want to rock the white nail as it is a bit of a statement, I have been opting for Chinchilly. This is a lovely muted grey, as all Essie polishes I own it applies like a dream and is opaque in two coats.

How do you feel about neutral nails or do you prefer a brighter nail polish?

Girl Crushin'

I post my girl crushes a lot on instagram but thought I'd do a blog post too. I have boards on Pinterest for most of my faves. There are just some celebs that I think are almost perfect. I would love to have Jennifer Lawrence's talent and sense of humour. Miranda Kerr has the perfect face. Blake Lively's hair (and husband)? Yes please! Then there is Joanna Halpin who is possibly one of the coolest people ever.

Who are your girl crushes?

Red Lips

red lipsticks

I tend to go through phases with wearing statement lips but I'd been seeing a lot of red lipsticks when browsing Pinterest so I dug out a few faves. I have worn a red lip almost every day this week and I love it! I think it really brightens up your face and even when I'm feeling crappy a red lip can perk me up. I think it's the perfect in-between shade from winter berries to spring's fuchsia.

In the photo I'm wearing Topshop's Infrared. Other stand-out products are Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation, Estee Lauder bronzer, and Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder and highlighter.

A fan of red lipsticks? Or are you still sticking with the winter berry shades?
